Duvet Cover Size Guide: Full, Queen and King Chart

650 thread count Egyptian cotton duvet cover set

Choose the duvet cover named for your bed. Our covers come in three sizes: Twin, Full/Queen and King/California King. So a full bed and a queen bed take the same cover, and so do a king and a California king.

Then check one more thing: the comforter that goes inside. The chart below has the real measurements for both. Shop all duvet cover sets once you know your size.

Duvet cover size chart

These are the dimensions listed on our product pages. They are the same across the Egyptian cotton and cotton flannel sets in this guide.

Size Duvet cover Pillow shams in the set Fits these beds
Twin 68" x 86" One, 20" x 26" Twin and Twin XL
Full/Queen 90" x 92" Two, 20" x 26" Full and Queen
King/California King 106" x 92" Two, 20" x 36" King and California King

Not every style comes in Twin. The size menu on each product page shows what is available.

Full vs Queen: why one cover fits both

If you searched for a full size duvet cover, this is your answer. There is no separate full. The Full/Queen cover is 90 inches wide and 92 inches long, and it is cut to dress both beds.

  • On a full bed (54 x 75 inches): about 18 inches of drape on each side. Full and generous.
  • On a queen bed (60 x 80 inches): about 15 inches on each side and 12 inches extra in length.

Either way, the mattress sides are covered and the bed looks finished.

King vs California King

The King/California King cover is 106 inches wide and 92 inches long.

  • On a king bed (76 x 80 inches): about 15 inches of drape per side and 12 inches extra at the foot.
  • On a California king bed (72 x 84 inches): about 17 inches per side and 8 inches extra at the foot.

A California king is narrower and longer than a king. That is why the same cover hangs a little lower on the sides and a little shorter at the foot.

Twin and Twin XL

The Twin cover is 68 x 86 inches. On a twin mattress (38 x 75 inches) that leaves about 15 inches per side and 11 inches of extra length. On a Twin XL (38 x 80 inches), the sides are the same and you keep about 6 inches at the foot.

The Twin set comes with one pillow sham. Every larger size comes with two.

Match the cover to your comforter

A duvet cover is a case. What matters most is how it fits the comforter or insert inside it. Measure yours before you order. Width first, then length.

Three simple rules:

  • Same size or a little smaller inside is fine. An insert a few inches smaller than the cover sits relaxed and easy.
  • Much smaller will shift. If your comforter is far narrower than the cover, it can slide to one side overnight.
  • Bigger will bunch. An insert larger than the cover has nowhere to go.

Our covers close with hidden buttons and have internal corner ties. Tie each corner of your insert and it stays where you put it.

Here is how our own insert lines up. The Reversible All-Season Down Alternative Comforter is medium weight, box stitched to keep the fill even, and made to be used on its own or as a duvet insert.

Comforter size Comforter Goes in this cover Cover
Twin 62" x 86" Twin 68" x 86"
Twin XL 68" x 90" Twin 68" x 86"
Full/Queen 86" x 86" Full/Queen 90" x 92"
King 102" x 86" King/California King 106" x 92"
California King 104" x 96" King/California King 106" x 92"

The Twin XL and California King comforters are 4 inches longer than their covers. They fit, with a fuller look at the foot. If you prefer a relaxed fit, the Twin and King comforters are the easier match.

New to duvets? Our guide on how to put on a duvet cover without the mess takes two minutes.

What comes in a duvet cover set

One duvet cover and matching pillow shams. Twin sets include one sham. Full/Queen and King/California King sets include two. The shams have a 2 inch flange and an envelope closure.

A set does not include the comforter, a fitted sheet or pillowcases. Those are separate.

Pick the fabric for the season

The size is settled. Now choose how it feels.

Cotton flannel, for cold nights. Brushed cotton flannel is soft from the first night. It holds warmth and still breathes. The Cotton Flannel Solid Duvet Cover Set comes in white, grey, ivory and sage. For a cabin feel, the Cotton Flannel Plaid Duvet Cover Set brings a classic plaid to the bed.

Egyptian cotton sateen, all year. Smooth. Breathable. A soft sheen that makes a made bed look dressed. The 650 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Duvet Cover is 100% Egyptian cotton with a buttery-smooth feel, in Twin, Full/Queen and King/California King. The 1000 Thread Count Egyptian Cotton Duvet Cover is the heavier of the two, with a thicker, more structured drape.

Care, in one minute

Our duvet cover sets are machine washable. Use a gentle cycle and skip the bleach. Tumble dry on low and take the cover out promptly. Press with a warm iron if you like a pressed finish. Always follow the care label.
